Rate your Genius Hour effort from 1-10 (with 10 being superior and 1 being minimal). Explain the reasoning for your score. I would give my effort on my Genius Hour project a 9 for several reasons. One being that I have spent time outside of the classroom to transfer my documents from google drive to word format. This is because not everyone would be able to access the documents if not being in a word format. Another reason I deserve a 9 is because to perform my Genius Hour project was I had to spend time out in the community to sell trees for the tree sale. Also I had to spend a couple Saturdays to help sort and distribute the trees when the end of the tree sale came. I believe that Genius Hour is a good use of my time in English class. I think this because it gets kids more involved in the community or just within our school district. It helps teach us life lessons that we may need in the future and it provides a community service. This is better than if we were just to read in class for the day.

What is your step-by-step plan to complete your Genius Hour Project? For the most part, I have completed my Genius Hour project by participating in the tree sale and collected the total numbers from the sale. All that is left to do is create a flyer for the next tree sale with information on it and distribute it throughout school and other organizations.
By May 11: Create flyer with information on tree sale. By May 18: Hang flyers around the school. Bring flyer to other places of business or other organizations. What progress have you made in the last month on your Genius Hour Project?I have researched more about the different types of trees around here. I have also broadened my search of trees to incorporate not only deciduous trees but coniferous trees, too. I have talked with one of the head employees at the Dickinson County Conservation District in town to help me with my goal of a tree sale. Considering that they hold an annual tree sale, too, I have helped with theirs and record the data of sales from it. Their tree sale has finished and their is pickup dates for the trees sold. What steps do you plan to take in the next three weeks to further your progress on your project? For the next three weeks, I will collect my data from this tree sale, and I will put it in a chart to show. I will also spread the word of the next tree sale in the fall for people who missed this years deadline. This will be done with a pamphlet that I will distribute through school.
Describe the progress you've made this semester on your Genius Hour Project. The progress I have made on my Genius Hour has not been very substantial. So far all I have done is add more trees that I have found to my website. I have also planned on how I would organize this information to put in some sort of book. The last thing I have done is try to figure out how I would organize a tree sale. What is the most challenging aspect of your project so far?The most challenging aspect I have had with this project so far is how I would organize a tree sale for people around this area. I'm not sure how I will go about doing this, but I know that it will be done.
Why have you decided to keep or change your Genius Hour Project from the last semester? How do you envision you Genius Hour to look when it is complete?I have decided to keep my Genius Hour project from last semester. I really did not like this project at first and I thought that I would probably do something else that might hold some interest to me. After my TedTalk, though, I learned that I want to learn more about my topic of trees. This will be helped by the fact that spring is coming, so I will be able to see the different leaves coming out.
I do not have many ideas on how my final result of my Genius Hour will look. I might have all my documents printed and put in a binder for the library. I could also create another website that you can search for the tree you want to look up and come up with one of my documents. The last option I might have is just leave everything on my website for people to search there. What did you learn from perusing the blogs of other students participating in Genius Hour/20 Time?I have learned many things for looking over the different blog post from the 20 Time students. One thing I learned was they could do anything they wanted for the benefit of them. Another thing is that each and every student worked hard to achieve their goals for the project. How can you use what you have learned to impact your own Genius Hour project/TedTalk?To use what I have learned in my Genius Hour would be very beneficial. From what I have learned, I could try and relate more to my audience from what I have learned. This would help me with the TedTalk. I could also try to make something more interesting in my Genius Hour project. What progress do you still need to make towards you Genius Hour project?I need to study more trees on the deciduous spectrum and start to look at coniferous trees, too. I also need to compose the book style.
What kinds of ideas about presentation skills did you think about as Sir Ken Robinson presented his ideas about education? How could you incorporate what you saw into your own TED talk? The skills Sir Ken Robinson used in his TED talk was humor. By incorporating humor and relating to the audience, I would make a better Ted talk about my Genius Hour project. How did Sir Ken Robinson's talk resonate with you? How might/might not Genius Hour support Sir Ken Robinson's ideas about how to chance education?Sir Ken Robinson's talk resonated with me by his use of humor to keep his audience engaged and willing to agree with what he said. His ideas would support Genius Hour because this allows students to study what they want to and help them to learn.
Describe the most useful resource you have found to help you develop your Genius Hour Project.I have found that the most useful resource for my Genius Hour project has been the internet. Along with the internet, the website called The Tree Guide has helped me. This website allows me to search for the next tree I wish to learn about. It tells me the facts about the tree, location of where the tree lives, and anything else that could be useful. The other most useful resource for me to use is my Google drive. This is because I am capable of writing out the main part of the tree used to identify it and make it easier for readers to understand. The drive also helps me by letting me put pictures on the document to help identify the trees. These two resources are what I would consider to be the most useful to me. Be honest. How could you use your Genius Hour time more effectively? To be honest, to use my Genius Hour time more effectively would be rather hard for me. This is because I believe I am using my time quite effectively for what little time I have. I dive right in to the project without getting distracted by other aspects of the internet. I get my work done and move on to the next part of my project.
Though I feel that I use my time effectively enough, there is one thing I could be doing different. Instead of focusing all my attention on one subject, I could be multi-tasking a little bit. I could be doing this, for example, by editing my weebly as I work on the documents for the trees. This, I feel, is the only thing that I would be able to do to increase my time used effectively. If you had an unlimited amount of time and funds to make your Genius Project all it could be, what would that look like?If I could have an unlimited amount of resources and time for my project, I would fly around the world studying the different types of trees. I would love to fly to the different parts of the world to look at all the different types of trees that counties had. One place I would go to is the Taiga Forest which covers 29% of all the forests in the world. It is located in Northern Russia and Canada, but trees still grow in this tundra climate. Another place I would go is to one of the warmest and most exotic places I could think of with the biggest trees I have seen in pictures. This is the forest located in Madagascar where the trunks of these trees are huge. This is because during the dry season, they store all the water needed in the trunks. This tree is called the Adansonia grandidieri. If I were able to do all of this traveling, the book I hope to write would look amazing with pictures and descriptions of the trees I personally saw. Also, my website would look about ten times better and more realistic with pictures taken by me. This is what I hope my Genius Hour Project would look like if I had unlimited amount of money and time.
